Poised on a steep hillside in Menetes, Karpathos, A&M’s latest hospitality project is steadily taking form, shaped by the island’s raw topography and guided by a design narrative rooted in restraint and continuity.
The architecture gently inscribes itself into the slope, tracing stone curves inspired by the spiral of Archimedes. Conceived as a discreet intervention, the design borrows from the Dodecanesian vernacular, with subterranean volumes that embrace the idea of carved-in hospitality rather than built-over imposition.
Excavation works and the structural framework of the residences have been completed. On site, construction continues with the formation of guest pathways and the shaping of private courtyards, each with its own pool seamlessly embedded into the terrain.
Soon, the built form will fold back into the landscape. The concrete shell will be buried under the Karpathian earth, as architecture becomes topography, and vision becomes place.
