New Bain & Company Athens HQ offices designed by A&M Architects to balance heritage with cutting-edge modernity

A&M Architects delivered a six-floor transformation for Bain & Company in a neoclassical 1930’s building in Kolonaki, a renowned, vibrant, high-end district of Athens.
The initial design challenge was creating a new workplace that would be spatially efficient, promote equality among staff and foster company culture. The final design outcome needed to support Bain’s transition to an open plan workplace with a few closed offices, through the provision of support spaces in the form of quiet rooms, focus rooms and informal meeting booths.
The softly curved shapes and stone details used in the reception and waiting area create a warm and cosy area that welcomes visitors and staff alike.
Throughout the typical floors from 1st to 3rd, user comfort and wellness are further emphasised through the maximisation of natural light and a dynamic seating plan, where employees can work from height-adjustable desks or take their work to the focus room area nearby. A collaboration table tucked in front of the Managing Director’s desk further encourages spontaneous discussions to take place without having to venture to the open plan area.
A neutral touch of grayscale colours makes the powerful red identity stronger. Using fabric products such as acoustic carpet and acoustic wall coverings on reflected surfaces provide acoustic comfort.
The well-equipped café of 4rth floor was designed as a key destination, with varied seating styles and maximum flexibility to function as an event space. The floor offers an array of amenities and spaces, including high stools, low sofas, casual table settings and outdoor furniture. The ceiling was beaten by adding colour to the beams – brownish red. Sound-absorbing panels create a comfortable acoustic atmosphere without excessive noise. Together with the lamps, they complete the composition, emphasizing the linearity of the space. The result is an interior that feels warm and uplifting, with terracotta and maroon hues contrasted against vivid blues.
A loft space is located on the top floor. Designed with contrasting light and dark elements, lounge furniture and a coffee point, this is the place where staff can have relaxed meetings and take a break from work. The terrace space offers impressive views of the city skyline, including the nearby Lycabettus Hill and the Acropolis, seamlessly blending hospitality into the workplace.
